水柱型Oken型透氣性/光滑度測試儀 KY / KG / KB 系列使透氣性（透氣性）和紙，聚合物薄膜和無紡布等各種片狀材料的平滑度易於操作。它是可以在短時間內進行測量的測試儀。
通常用於測量透氣度或平滑度的Gurley透氣度測試儀和Beck的平滑度測試儀可測量一定量的空氣通過板材的時間。另一方面，Oken型測試儀使用少量的空氣流過片材，並基於片材前後的壓力差來計算透氣度和平滑度。由於測量方法的這種差異，Oken型測試儀的特點是可重複性高，並且測量時間比Gurley測試儀或Beck測試儀短。考慮到這些特徵，Oken透氣度測試儀在JIS P8117：2009中被規格化，而Oken平滑度測試儀在JIS P8155：2010中被規格化。
