ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer
Breakthrough technology delivers a major innovation for Fat Analysis. The ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer uses ANKOM Filter Bag Technology (FBT) to increase sample throughput while maintaining sample integrity.
The ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer utilizes technology developed by ANKOM to automatically extract fat from foods, feedstuffs and other materials using traditional fat solvents. The process, identified as Accelerated Batch Extraction (ABE), allows for the Crude Fat extraction of twenty samples in as little as 20 minutes.
The analysis of fat in the ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer is based on the solublization properties of traditional fat solvents. The ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer accelerates the process by performing the extraction under pressure at elevated temperatures while continually agitating the samples.
The ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer utilizes batch processing for the extraction of up to twenty samples at a time. With the capability of more than 300 samples per day, throughput is dramatically increased. The secret to the process is the encapsulation and quantitative recovery of each sample in a filter bag. The filter media is a specially made laminate, ultrasonically welded, capable of retaining particles less than one micron in size. All samples are submerged in heated solvent facilitating the removal of fat from the sample matrix. The integrity of the sample is preserved by the inability of particles to escape encapsulation. Fat is determined by difference (AOAC 920.39(a)).
Safety by Design – ANKOM Guardian Technology™
The ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer is designed to safely perform extractions with common fat solvents that are volatile and flammable. Several levels of fail-safe operation are built into this instrument. In most cases four faults would have to occur before a dangerous condition would be present. The entire extraction is performed while the extraction chamber is sealed. The solvent is completely evaporated from the extraction chamber and the chamber is flushed with nitrogen before it can be opened.
The electronic components are sealed in a separate electrical compartment. Wiring that exits the electrical compartment is either intrinsically safe and/or explosion proof.
The stainless steel extraction chamber is sealed with a Viton o-ring and the computer pressure tests the system before every operation. Lid control is accomplished with pneumatic pistons activated by nitrogen. The heating band is completely sealed and insulated in a stainless steel compartment pressurized with nitrogen. The rotation of the carousel is accomplished by a magnetic coupling thus eliminating the need to penetrate the vessel.
As an added safety factor the ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer incorporates an electronic Organic Vapor Detector (OVD). The OVD signal is monitored by the XT20’s computer and will indicate on the screen when organic vapor is detected. If the level is within 40% of the lower explosion limit, it will shut down the instrument. If solvent is spilled outside the instrument or if a leak occurs inside the instrument the computer will shut down all power outside the sealed electrical compartment.
