SOLARBOX型是一種能夠模擬陽光照射的人工氣候試驗箱，標誌著小型光老化試驗系統方面的突破性進展。該裝置內的輻射能量由產生兩倍太陽的輻照水平的風冷式單管高級氙燈提供，輻照度與落在樣品上的光能成正比。一個環境試驗箱如果想要獲得精確的和可重現性的試驗結果必須能夠控制輻照度。

輻照度控制：

SOLARBOX試驗箱在每個試驗期間提供輻照度持續的測量與控制，通過一個閉環窄帶輻照度傳感控制系統不斷修正氙燈與UV濾片的老化處理過程。氙燈在拋物面型反光板上聚焦，這樣不用轉動樣品盤，就能保證輻照的均勻性，同樣能與轉鼓式氙燈老化曝曬系統相媲美。

溫度控制：

溫度對材料老化的影響在最終使用環境中也是一個很重要的因素，自然環境中的熱量來自陽光中紅外光部分，物體受陽光直射時的溫度總是高於其周圍環境溫度。被測樣品放置在SOLARBOX氙燈老化試驗箱裡就是模擬與太陽光線相同的照射方式，對樣品進行照射。採用黑標溫度計（BST）可連續控制和監測氙燈的輻射熱，溫度計放置在樣品盤附近。由於溫度會加速物質的老化，所以需對樣品被照射過程中的溫度進行控制，通過氙燈和過濾片的組合可達到模擬陽光的最佳效果。SOLARBOX 1500是先進的過濾型氙燈照射人工氣候試驗箱，可以模擬戶外真實的自然氣候條件。為加速實驗過程，需要逼真地模擬太陽光線。SOLARBOX試驗箱中的風冷式氙燈不僅僅可以產生紫外光，還可以模擬太陽的所有光譜成分。
